We are currently hiring for a full-time assistant café manager and part-time positions! We are looking for board game enthusiasts, ideally with hospitality experience, who don’t mind rolling up their sleeves and pitching in on any aspect of café operations as a founding member of our small but mighty team.

Assistant Café Manager – Board Game Café

Hours: 30+ Hours / Week

Compensation: $20–$25 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Benefits: Monthly health insurance stipend available after initial employment period (subject to eligibility)

Location: Grant Park neighborhood, Atlanta (The Beacon)

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and service-oriented Assistant Café Manager to join the founding team of Meeples Board Game Café. This is a hands-on leadership role in a new establishment, and the successful candidate will help shape the culture, operations, and guest experience from the ground up as an original member of the team.

This position is designed as a close working partnership with the café owner and manager. The Assistant Café Manager will initially work alongside the owner/manager during most shifts, with the expectation that responsibilities will expand relatively quickly and that the role will grow into more independent shift management over time.

Schedule

  • 30+ hours per week
  • Primarily afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts (cafĂ© operating hours: 3:00 PM–10:00 PM weeknights; 11:00 AM–11:00 PM/9:00 PM weekends), plus some holidays
  • Flexibility required based on business needs

Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily cafĂ© operations and help ensure smooth, efficient service
  • Provide excellent customer service, including welcoming guests and supporting the board game cafĂ© experience
  • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso drinks, beer, wine, and other beverage offerings
  • Assist with light food preparation, kitchen organization, and basic kitchen management
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the front-of-house and kitchen areas
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, POS management, and operational readiness
  • Support inventory management and restocking
  • Support training and management of a small team of (1–3) part-time employees
  • Help execute special events, game nights, tournaments, and private bookings
  • Learn and uphold cafĂ© standards while gradually assuming greater responsibility and shift ownership

Growth Opportunity

  • Work closely with the cafĂ© owner/manager during the initial launch and training period
  • Contribute as a foundational team member to the establishment and development of the cafĂ©
  • Transition relatively quickly into increased responsibility and independent shifts
  • Help build systems, routines, and a strong guest experience from the ground up

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year prior experience in a cafĂ©, bar, restaurant, or hospitality setting
  • Experience with barista work and/or bartending strongly preferred
  • Comfort with light kitchen duties and basic food safety practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A genuine interest in and knowledge of board games
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
  • Reliable, organized, proactive, and adaptable
  • Comfortable working in a new and evolving business environment
  • Social media / digital savviness is a bonus

This is a great opportunity for students or those looking for an engaging afternoon/evening or weekend role in a fun, community-focused environment centered around board games.

This position focuses on supporting the day-to-day flow of the café through essential operational tasks, while also offering opportunities to take on more customer-facing responsibilities for those interested.

Schedule

  • 15–25 hours per week
  • Primarily afternoon and evening shifts, weekend availability preferred (cafĂ© hours: 3:00 PM–10:00 PM weeknights; 11:00 AM–11:00 PM/9:00 PM weekends)
  • Flexible scheduling, ideal for students

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the cafĂ©, including seating area, kitchen space, and game library
  • Clean, sort, and organize board games to ensure they are complete and ready for use
  • Bus tables, wash dishes, and assist with general cafĂ© upkeep
  • Restock supplies, including games, retail items, and cafĂ© inventory
  • Support smooth daily operations by assisting team members as needed
  • (Optional) Assist with guest interactions, event support, and helping customers learn games based on interest and experience
